THE IMAGE of a greased-up Wati Holmwood running across the ANZ Stadium turf will forever be etched into the minds of 4.1 million State of Origin viewers.

Holmwood's 77th minute saunter on the biggest night of rugby league has drawn much publicity, with some even calling for the repeat offender to be jailed.

Anybody thinking of replicating Holmwood's outrageous act in the Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League should think again, with a similar fate awaiting those who actually go through with it.

NRRRL president Brian Rix said he could not see why anybody would want to disrupt a local game in that fashion, adding he did not think the competition had an issue with it before.

"I'm not sure if it's happened before in my 35 years involved with the competition," Rix said.

"Like all instances that happen on the field, it is completely up to the referee. I would expect they would stop the game until he was removed."

While a fine may not be imposed by the NRRRL, the governing body of the local competition could ban the offender from attending future games, as well as copping a trip to the local police station. …
