GAMBLERS blew almost $52m in the Fraser Coast's 1100 poker machines in the past year, adding up to $495 per person for every man, woman and child in the region.

Across Queensland, more than $2 billion has poured into the machines since July 2012 - the equivalent of $429 per person.

The staggering consumption is shared between 42,947 machines at 1259 hotels and clubs across the state.

These figures do not include the amounts that are spent but won back by punters - between 85% to 92% of money fed into machines is returned. …
