HE said he couldn't remember the night he bashed a stereo speaker across his girlfriend's head.

But Russell Smith's violent rampage in Woorabinda on Saturday night came flooding back momentarily when Police Prosecutor Matthew Heelan yesterday reminded him of how he brutally beat his girlfriend. Mr Heelan slammed home how Smith bashed his girlfriend and left her t-shirt saturated in ruby-red blood. She also sustained a 4cm gash on her head.

Smith yesterday pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one charge of assault causing bodily harm, one charge of wilful damage and obstructing a police officer while on duty.

The court heard that on Saturday night Smith and his girlfriend had been drinking when they got into an altercation.

Mr Heelan said Smith struck his girlfriend over the head with a stereo speaker. …
