A FARMERS' market could come to fruition within weeks as the Central Queensland Leagues Club looks set to make its market debut.

CQ Leagues Club manager Adam Mathieson said while the club was still securing market stallholders, it had an opening in sight.

"We're looking at kicking it off in potentially August or September," he said.

He said he was keen to kick off a farmers' market in Bundaberg after living on the Sunshine Coast.

"Every weekend there's a dozen farmers' markets somewhere (on the Sunshine Coast) and it gives people an option," he said.

He said this was just not the case in Bundaberg.

"You're in a food bowl and basically we're being dictated to be the big supermarket chains on what we buy -- people should be able to buy fresh produce every day of the week," he said.

Mr Mathieson said he had received overwhelming support from customers and the general public after seeking expressions of interest in the NewsMail on May 30. …
