Local Knowledge a Matter of Time

Article excerpt

HELLO, I'd like to be one of you please.

In a couple of months I'll be celebrating my third year living on the Sunshine Coast.

So I'm just wondering, how much longer will it be until I can be considered a local?

Am I there already? Or do I have a bit longer to go?

What does one have to do to be considered a local?

Long story short, I came up from the Gold Coast at the end of 2010.

It's not my home town though -- I was actually born in Tasmania (please, no inbred jokes) but only lived there about eight years before the family moved to Queensland.

So most of my life's been on the Gold Coast -- but it certainly doesn't feel like I'm from there.

I haven't been back in about two years -- I have no real desire to visit either.

There's not a whole lot left there for me now.

I've got some friends, but then there's Facebook for that. And my family are pretty much scattered around Australia now.

So am I a bonafide Sunshine Coast local now? …
