WHAT an awesome fortnight of golf in our region and congratulations to the clubs involved -- Capricorn Country Club, Rockhampton Golf Club, Yeppoon Golf Club and Mercure Capricorn Resort.

Thank you for supporting the tour and let's make it bigger and better next year.

During the events there were three course records, tight finishes and a great atmosphere. Some of the highlights included Gareth Paddison's course record six under 64 on the new Country Club layout, Adam Bland's incredible bunker shot from the worst plugged lie on his way to claim the title at Rocky, Andrew Kelly's course record nine under 62 at Yeppoon and Andrew Martin's seven under par 65 in 40-knot winds on the Championship course at Capricorn Resort.

As they say, "these guys can play".

The Pat O'Driscoll/ Tropical Auto Group Golf Classic celebrated its 21st running and it was a tournament all those involved will never forget.

Starting with the Workforce Express sponsors' day, 300 competitors played a five-person Ambrose and they were kept well hydrated and even had a Macca's drive through to keep the hungry hordes at bay.

The village markets around the pool was next, with several different stations serving food from around the world. All the professionals were there so it was great to catch up or meet some new friends before the tournament started in earnest.

Thursday's casino night was a highlight, with croupiers, table and chips it felt like Las Vegas.

I soldiered on to Friday night and with a hardy crew we rocked the night away to Rocky's must-see band Shoeless Joe. They were amazing and the full dance floor was testament to that.

A special mention must go to Chopper Jacobson for jumping on the drums and belting out a few tunes, he is a special talent. I am not sure what that talent is but he is special. The Gala dinner on Saturday night was an amazing event, complete with trapeze artists, comedians and a jazz band. …
