PUTTING ON A SHOW; Grafton-Trained Show Day Notches Hat-Trick of Wins at Ballina

FOUR-year-old gelding Show Day continued its unbeaten run at Ballina with a win in the $15,000 Taylor's Wines Class 2 Handicap (1900m) at the Ballina Jockey Club yesterday.

The Grafton horse has now had eight starts for three wins - all at Ballina.

Show Day ($4.80) finished a neck ahead of six year-old gelding The Big Boy Sings ($8) with five-year-old Sleuths ($21) a short half-head back.

"It was a thrilling finish and I was really happy with him," trainer Joanne Hardy.

"It was his first go at the 1900m and he handled himself really well.

"He has a 100% record here and he seems to love the track."

There is one more meeting at the club before the Ballina Cup on September 13.

Hardy isn't sure when the four-year-old will race again.

"He is immature and it's taken us a bit of time to get him ready," she said.

"Every time he steps out on the track he improves, I think he will be a real handy stayer here in the future. …
