MICHAEL Cay's goal proved to be the turning point in the top-of-the-table clash between reigning premiers Clinton and Frenchville.

The Central Queensland Premier League leaders' clash at Clinton Field on Saturday was very physical and fiercely contested but it was Frenchville who triumphed 4-2.

Frenchville's victory edged them closer to hosting a home semi-final on August 17, and to claiming the minor premiership. They just need to secure a point against Emerald on Saturday in round 21.

"The win gave us a real shot at hosting the first semi-final -- playing at Clinton is a lot different to what we're used to and doesn't really suit our playing style," coach Lyndsay Dean said.

"We will try and get a point at Emerald, but we're not taking anything for granted. Emerald are a team who are dictated by shift workers so the team we beat quite convincingly earlier this season could be different to the one we play out there...we can't take them lightly."

Frenchville will want to start better than they did against Clinton whose early pressure caused mistakes from the visitors, which the hosts quickly capitalised on. …
