Labor Indicates $10M in Funding for Roundabout

DEPUTY Prime Minister Anthony Albanese flew into Gladstone yesterday to commit $10million to upgrade the Kin Kora roundabout if Labor wins the election.

It was the first of many expected house calls by senior politicians over the next few weeks.

The $25million project involves a six-lane intersection with traffic lights that would reduce congestion at the intersection of Dawson Hwy and Philip St.

But the Federal funding is only a start, with a further $15million investment required from the State Government before the project gets a green light.

Mr Albanese said both roads were designated B-double routes and formed the entry point to Gladstone's largest shopping complex.

"We have an intersection here where in the morning families trying to get into Gladstone from Calliope get banked back thousands of metres," he said.

"Even today we've heard the screeching of car wheels and the impatience that comes when people are waiting to get through a roundabout that clearly is inappropriate and has outlived its usefulness. …
