Slow Going Sure to Suit Rain Affair

SYDNEY trainer Joe Pride famously declared he would take on Black Caviar with talented sprinter Rain Affair in the TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick in April, suggesting the champion mare had been racing against "second-raters" in Melbourne.

History will show Black Caviar won the race -- which turned out to be her last -- with Rain Affair finishing fourth after leading.

The gelding then finished a close second to champion colt All Too Hard in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on April 27, before that galloper was also retired to the breeding barn.

Rain Affair then headed to the Brisbane winter carnival where he was runner-up to Your Song in the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) on a heavy track at Eagle Farm, before finishing near the tail behind Epaulette in the Doomben 10,000 (1350m) on May 25.

Pride has set the son of Commands for a tilt at the $125,000 Group 3 Missile Stakes (1200m) today at Randwick, where the six-year-old will be perfectly suited by the expected slow going. …
