THERE were crazy costumes, classic cars and adults trying to do somersaults.

In the middle of all the fun was Renee Downman's beautiful smile.

More than 40 people gathered at Aussie World yesterday morning to kick off a five-hour journey across the Sunshine Coast in an event billed Renee's Amazing Race.

After being diagnosed with the rare Ewing's sarcoma cancer this year, the Buderim girl has been undergoing chemotherapy.

Yesterday she took a break from treatment to watch the fun - although she admitted she would have preferred to have been taking part.

"I wanted to go into the race myself but with my chemotherapy I can't be in a car for long periods of time," Renee said. "It was lovely being out there for the start.

"It was a beautiful day and it was so great to see everyone out there and supporting me," Renee said.

"I get a lot of support on my Facebook page but to have everyone there in the flesh was great. …
