CHRIS Smith has taught thousands of littlies in his 36-year teaching career.

Next month he will take time out from school to help thousands more who are affected by a disability.

The Buderim man is taking part in Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk across England to raise money for Smart Pups.

The 58-year-old has titled his 310km journey Trek for Tuppence in honour of his late sister, Angela, who grew up suffering autism, epilepsy and other disabilities.

Angela was nicknamed Tuppence by their father.

She died seven years ago.

When Mr Smith, 56, saw the work of Smart Pups on a television show last year, he realised their ability to help disabled kids, like Angela, and instantly wanted to help.

"These dogs are amazing, and really form a connection with the kids," Mr Smith said.

"When I saw this show I thought about how much one of these dogs would have really helped Angela, and our family. …
