Debaters Progress to Semis for Region; Year 10s Exercise Minds

THE Allora State School's Year 10 debating team is the toast of the town after having progressed through to the semi-finals of the Queensland Debating Union, Toowoomba Region, 2013 Competition.

The Year 10 team of Darcey Liesegang, Jack Bannister and Erin Weier presented a solid case to come away with a narrow win against Fairholme College on Wednesday night, August 1, in Toowoomba.

Allora had the affirmative side of the topic: "That we should reduce prison sentences in exchange for completion of education qualifications".

Jack Bannister delivered some strong points to open his team's case, Erin Weier spoke very clearly and deliberately as second speaker and Darcey Liesegang finished with a very animated summary and plenty of rebuttal.

In the 2013 Year 10 competition, 18 teams from across the Darling Downs have been battling it out to get into the finals.

Only four teams now remain and will debate in the semi-finals to be held at St Joseph's College this week. …
