THE official campaign for the 2013 Federal Election lasts only five weeks but has felt much longer for many Australians in the lead-up to the September 7 poll.

Canberra fired the election pistol early when former Labor Prime Minister Julia Gillard announced a September 14 poll earlier this year. Kevin Rudd later shaved a week off this date upon his return to power.

At the approximate half-way mark of the official campaign race, Wide Bay has seen its fair share of political activity as politicians attempt to woe voters with policy, pledges and visions for the future.

Opposition leader and prime minister hopeful Tony Abbott and incumbent member for Wide Bay Warren Truss visited Kybong Hall pledging millions to upgrade and duplicate the Bruce Hwy right to the southern edge of Gympie.

Australian Independents senate candidate and leader Dr Patricia Petersen walked Mary St, calling for a flood levee to safeguard Gympie's CBD from flooding of the likes to grip the region earlier this year. …
