Shopkeepers Shot in Raid by Two Gunmen

A SHOP worker is fighting for his life today after gunmen shot him and his colleague during a bungled Halloween robbery.

The man, in his fifties, is in a critical condition after being blasted in the chest at close range with a shotgun. His colleague, in his forties, was hit in the leg and is in a stable condition.

They are believed to have chased two men out of Show Supermarket in Plaistow High Street after a confrontation, but were shot as they followed the raiders outside. The two gunmen then ran off.

The victims were the only people inside the shop when the gunmen entered just before midnight.

Residents living close to the scene said they heard a single loud bang.

They said the supermarket was owned by a Turkish family, and was apparently also the target of an attempted robbery last month.

Raki Begum, 29, a mother of three, said: "Just before midnight I heard a bang that was far too loud to be a firework, which is what I first thought. …
