But, despite loving her long blonde tresses, she has now had around 18inches chopped off in aid of charity.

The 12-year-old from Skelton had her waist-long hair cut in memory of friend Abigail who died from cancer.

The pair became pals through the Star Doll website and would regularly chat online.

But after learning that Abigail had died, Amelia was inspired to have her hair - which she has only had trimmed for the last seven years - into a short bob.

The Huntcliffe School pupil said: "I've always wanted to do something for charity, then when my friend Abigail died it made me think.

"When she got a wig after she lost her hair she was very happy. I thought I could do this to make someone else happy."

Amelia raised around PS700 from her hair-raising challenge and she will donate this along with 18 inches of her locks to The Little Princess Trust, which donates wigs to youngsters who have lost their hair through cancer treatment. …
