First Coast News Meteorologist Charged with DUI; Tim Deegan Arrested Saturday Night in Jacksonville Beach

Tim Deegan, First Coast News' chief meteorologist, was arrested on a drunken driving charge Saturday night in Jacksonville Beach.

Deegan, 54, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or chemical substance, with "faculties impaired," according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office jail log. He was booked about 9:48 p.m. and released on his own recognizance at 11:19 a.m. Sunday.

Deegan could not be reached Sunday. Eric Land, First Coast News president and general manager, said First Coast News did not comment on employees' legal issues.

The initial arrest was made by the Jacksonville Beach Police Department.

The detailed arrest report was not available Sunday but will be released Monday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and the Jacksonville Beach department.

MAN SHOT AND KILLED IN NORTHSIDE

A 32-year-old man died after he was shot Sunday afternoon in Jacksonville's Northside.

Sgt. Jay Farhat said that the man was shot in the 1900 block of West 25th Street about 4:45 p.m.

"By the time he was transported to UF Health," Farhat said, "he was pretty much gone."

2-YEAR-OLD DIES; MAN ARRESTED

A 2-year-old girl who went into cardiac arrest Saturday died later that night. The next day, her mother's boyfriend was arrested.

Sgt. Jay Farhat said there will be a briefing on the arrest Monday. He had said on Saturday that the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was investigating why the girl stopped breathing and that he suspected foul play. The girl had been taken to Wolfson Children's Hospital.

FLAGLER MAN, JUVENILE ARRESTED AFTER CHASE

A Flagler County man and a female juvenile companion were arrested early Sunday in South Carolina in connection with the Saturday night carjacking that left a Palm Coast deliveryman with serious head injuries.

They also are suspected of committing an armed robbery in St. Johns County before being arrested in Hardeeville, S.C., after a two-state police chase, according to a news release.

Guiseppe Verdone, 22, of Palm Coast, and the juvenile are facing charges of kidnapping, aggravated battery, robbery and grand theft. …
