LIFE hasn't been easy for Scott Oliver, who is managaging in the top flight for the first time.

He left Second Division Birtley Town at the end of last season and joined Hebburn Town, who after 17 games have just two points.

"We've had a tough time and I'm in the process of rebuilding the squad after a number of players left. I'm trying to build a team which will be competitive but it isn't easy, although I've managed to bring in four players recently," said Oliver ahead of this afternoon's home game with Consett.

Kris Summers (Sunderland RCA), Michael Watson (Ryton and Crawcrook Albion), Kevin Morton (Bedlington Terriers) and Dan Reeves (Seaham Red Star) are the recent recruits.

Oliver, though, cannot call on suspended pair Dan Smith and Lee McMahon and he awaits news on the fitness of Chris Smith and Ali Downey before finalising his squad.

Durham City boss Adam Furness is hoping for a return to form at the expense of out-of-sorts Billingham Town at New Ferens Park.

He said: "We've stuttered recently and we need to start another run of positive results. I've got Dan Madden returning to a near full-strength squad and the only absentee is likely to be Joe Hughes."

Billingham Town are second-bottom with just three points out of a possible 51 and this week they appointed Wilf Constantine as manager in place of Paul Burton.

Dunston UTS are sixth going into their home game with Sunderland RCA. "We've taken 16 points from the last six matches and I'm looking for the lads to keep the run going," said manager Billy Irwin, who misses ace marksman Andy Bulford.

Sunderland RCA, who recently transferred Kris Summers to Hebburn Town and Evan McEvoy to Brandon United, name fit-again Nathan Wilson and Ross Preston.

Whitley Bay boss Ian Chandler could possibly have one eye on next week's FA Carlsberg Vase tie when he names his line-up against championship contenders Spennymoor Town at Hillheads. …
