SUBSIDY SUGGESTED ON COUNCIL RATES - President of the Nymboida Shire Council, Cr EJ Fahey, suggested at yesterday's meeting that an approach should be made through the Shires Association for a pound for pound subsidy for local government on the amount of rates levied. He said that raising of land had outlived its usefulness, and the time was near when some other arrangement would have to be made.

DEADLY SNAKE IN COFFS HBR AREA - During his three-day survey of the Coffs Harbour district, snake expert Ram Chandra has found the deadly rough scale snake, or Clarence River snake, to be alarmingly common in this area. The Clarence River snake belongs to the tiger family and can cause death within hours.
