REBELS Motorcycle Club members are lying if they say their organisation is not a criminal gang, according to Wide Bay police.

"The Rebels have a presence in Bundaberg, Maryborough and Gympie," district CIB chief Bruce McNab said in Gympie yesterday.

"Detectives and uniformed police throughout the Wide Bay district are engaged in dismantling these gangs.

"We're not targeting recreational motorcyclists.

"They may get pulled up, but only as part of normal operations.

"We target any organised criminal group where we find it, bikies or not, including pedophile groups.

"MEMBERS of the Rebels in our area have been before the courts on criminal matters and one prominent member is currently serving a term of imprisonment.

"They have been involved in trafficking, supply, and a range of assaults on community members and the police.

"They have committed the offences here against community members here and they have arrested and gone to court here. …
