MENTAL Health Week is encouraging residents to take a moment to invest in their emotional wellbeing.

It was with this in mind Choice Support Services Gympie hosted an awareness day in Neslon Reserve yesterday.

Choice Support Services support worker Tina Searle said the day aimed to highlight the support available for those with mental health concerns while raising community awareness to tear down the stigma for those affected.

"People in the community have different levels of mental health and we're here today to help people with mental health worries and also give people tools to prevent problems in the first place," she said.

Ms Searle said modern life was leaving a number of people fragile.

"There are financial, family and work stresses impacting people," she said.

Despite an increase in public awareness and services in recent years, society continues to labour under false beliefs when it comes to mental health. …
