Audio Tours a Winner for Iconic Park; New Downloadable Voice Adds a Clever Talking Point to Queens Park History

A WALK through Queens Park is now an award-winning educational experience.

The popular audio tour, which was launched as a part of the Ipswich Heritage Trail program last year, has been recognised in the National Trust Queensland Heritage Awards, taking gold in the Governor's Heritage Award category.

Visitors can download the tour to their smart phone or hire an MP3 player from the Information Centre and learn about the history of the iconic Ipswich location.

The script was written by Ipswich historian Robyn Buchanan and narrated by Ashley Mac over 20 stops, taking about two hours.

Ipswich City Council Planning and Development Committee chairman Paul Tully said the award was validation of council's efforts to preserve local heritage.

"This audio tour is a great way to use the latest technology to explore and uncover hidden treasures in Queens Park," Cr Tully said.

"Dating back to 1863, Queens Park is one of Queensland's oldest and home to a wide range of interesting historical features. …
