Silver |Fox ART and music go hand-in-hand for this bunch of creatives.

Between them the Silver Fox quartet boast a wealth of experience performing in varying musical formats; from instrumental to rock.

But it was a combined passion to start a band that was focused on including the audience that was the catalyst for Silver Fox.

Laura Lancaster (vocalist/guitarist) explains: "Rachel and myself are twin sisters and were in Meandthetwins with Paul Smith from Maximo Park, as well as Chippewa Falls...both of these bands were instrumental and quite different to Silver Fox.

"Silver Fox was the first band we'd been in which involved vocals, especially the harmonies were all new to us, and it was really fun to explore what our voices sounded like together.

"The band came about from us chatting and getting into the idea of making a band that was inclusive and felt like it involved the audience, and just to see what it would sound like if we all played music together without any preconceptions."

Alongside the twins is singer Susie Green and drummer Rebecca Knight, both of whom had their fingers in other pies before the band's conception.

Susie started singing in choirs when she was younger and also played in bands on piano and clarinet before getting together with Peter and David Brewis - of Field Music fame - to join The New Tellers for a short time. She also did a few small gigs with Paul Smith before Silver Fox came knocking.

She says: "It wasn't until about four years ago that I found the courage to belt it out with Silver Fox. I was living in London - soon to move back to Newcastle. Becca emailed suggesting we do a set at the covers night she was organising called Under The Covers and from there we began."

Rebecca adds: "Before Silver Fox I had only ever made music with my brother when we were teenagers - I played drums and he was on guitar. It was short-lived.

"Like the others, I come from an art school background. I am also involved with the Star and Shadow, programming films and the occasional gig.

"I was friends with Laura, Rachel and Susie and we had separate conversations about starting a band together. …
