Drug Dealer 'Paying off Mortgage'; Judge Frowns on Guns-Drugs Link

A STREET level trafficker put the profits from his drug trade into his mortgage.

Darren James Rebbeck has lost his marriage and his freedom as a direct result of selling drugs. He was jailed for six years in the Supreme Court in Mackay yesterday after pleading guilty to trafficking methylamphetamine, MDMA and cannabis.

Methylamphetamine was the primary drug, which he would buy as "an eight ball", divide up and sell to his regular customers, crown prosecutor Matthew Hynes said.

Rebbeck's trafficking activities extended over 10 months.

He earned a monthly profit of between $2000 and $2500, which totalled between $20,000 and $25,000 for the period of offending. His total sales were between $58,000 and $73,000, Mr Hynes said.

He came to attention through a Mackay police operation targeting a man who will face the court next year. Telephone intercepts were used and revealed Rebbeck bought his drugs from the man. …
