ANTHONY Francis Phillips (right) thought his partner of 26 years was cheating on him when he entered another man's property and assaulted him.

Phillips had been drinking heavily when he returned home on October 12, about 5am, to find his partner wasn't at home, Mackay Magistrate Court heard yesterday.

Further down the street he saw his vehicle was parked at another house. Phillips knew the man who lived in the house and decided to enter it through the back.

He saw the man exit from his bedroom, where he thought he saw him doing up his pants, the court heard. His partner was also in the man's bedroom, in the bed, and Phillips thought he saw her doing up her blouse.

Phillips assaulted the man, throwing punches at his head, while the man claimed nothing had happened between himself and the woman, who had to pull her partner off the man.

Phillips also threw a cup of coffee in the man's face and produced a knife, asking the man "do you want me to use this on you? …
