BALLOONS Kill Babies.

It sounds more like a safety awareness program than a heavy metal band.

Guitarist Christian Carter said they like to keep the reasons behind the name a secret, preferring others to make their own interpretations.

"Almost everyone we meet asks us about our name and what people think our name is about can be quite bizarre.

"We have received a few emails from an American Christian fundamentalist group thinking we are on a campaign in favour of anti-conception. That was a wild one.

"We have also had people tell us that the balloon represents a person's ego and as it grows we kill our childlike essence," he said with a laugh.

Karl O'Shea (bass), Frances Daly (drums) and Carter (guitar), are former Mackay lads who moved to Brisbane to realise their dream of making a living from music.

Since forming in 2011, the band has made its way through the live music scene in Brisbane and scored air time on community radio in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. …
