Bill Accused of Breaking Word

LIVINGSTONE mayoral candidate Kay Becker has launched a personal attack on rival Bill Ludwig accusing him yesterday of "broken promises".

Ms Becker came out firing, claiming the former Livingstone Shire Mayor and current Rockhampton Regional councillor couldn't keep his word because he promised not to run for mayor again if de-amalgamation was successful.

She claimed he then promised to only run as mayor for the next two years -- until the state wide local government election in 2016.

"I'm contesting the mayoral position for the longer term, not the short term like Cr Ludwig, and my only promise is to work very hard and honestly, as I have done all my working life," Ms Becker said.

She intended to provide the residents and ratepayers of the new Livingstone Shire with a new beginning, which she said would bring a more harmonious environment within the workplace and the wider business community.

"My new style of management will bring with it the stability this shire has needed for a very long time," she said. …
