World No.13 Feeling Good about Chile Super Mum Defies Age; Water Skier Eyes Third World Title 10 Years after Her Second

WATER SKIING: The Sunshine Coast's Emma Sheers, 39, is on the cusp of one of the great sporting comebacks as she chases her third world championship title.

Sheers claimed her last global title a decade ago and retired in 2009 to raise her children Marley, 7, and Rory, 3.

The competitor within refused to lay dormant though and Sheers returned to the skis a year ago before winning the national slalom title at the Australian championships in April.

She will attempt to cap her comeback by winning the world championships in Chile later this month.

Sheers said she would like nothing more than standing on the podium at the end of the championships on December 2.

"It's been 10 years since I won my last one, so for me to come back after having two kids and setting up a business and all the things that have been going on, it would be amazing," she said.

"I still love competing and have always loved to compete -- the training's the hard part. …
