One-Dayers Give Laggers a Chance to Make Their Runs

CRICKET: The start of the one-day rounds of SCCA Division 1 fixtures this weekend will begin to sort out the competition's cluttered middle order, with only ladder leader Caboolture and the winless Hinterland and Tewantin-Noosa well separated from the bunch.

On form, Hinterland should remain in the lower bracket, as the Hawks travel to Grant Road to face the unbeaten Caboolture which last week reached 333 from 5-86.

Caboolture will realise, however, that the Hawks' batting is well suited to the limited-overs game and if Nathan Dodd can keep things turning at one end, the unstructured flair of the visitors may pay off.

Nambour is one place and just over one point ahead of Gympie on the ladder, making the Showgrounds clash important for position, but neither team will change the approach that has provided the highs and lows of batting.

Cutters skipper Steve Ledger leads the competition in runs, and with support from Nick Wallace, Jon Wigley and Dave Bowden, could set the Gold a good target, or chase quickly.

However, the visitors have more potential in the top six, and an outstanding individual effort from bat or ball may be needed for Nambour to hold fourth spot.

Tewantin-Noosa -- up against Maroochydore -- considers itself unlucky not to have notched up a win so far, but in truth the Thunder has failed to restrict other sides to reasonable totals, or else underachieved early in vital innings. …
