Coast Rookie Wants Gift; Teen Has Claims in Noosa Sprint

ATHLETICS: Jordan Csabi is already one of Australia's top young sprinters, but a Queensland coach believes we have seen only a glimpse of his potential.

The Tewantin teenager will tomorrow be among the field for the burgeoning Noosa Gift, which has attracted a host of the nation's top handicap runners, including reigning Stawell Gift 70m champion Isaac Dunmall.

Csabi looms as a genuine threat after a strong year, which has included making the 100m and 200m finals at the Australian Junior Championships in Perth in March as a then 15-year-old competing at under-17 level.

According to his state coach, Mick Hooper, there is plenty to come from the St Andrew's Anglican student, who has been in athletics only since age 14.

"I think Jordan's going to go a long way," he said.

"We're still working on his maximum speed, his start and his acceleration.

"He looks like a Paddle Pop stick compared to some of the athletes he's racing against who look like grown men with muscles everywhere. …
