Unlucky Break Ends Dream of Marathon; Bike Crash Cancels out Run in New York

A BAD fall from his pushbike did more than leave Michael Shadforth in hospital with a punctured lung and broken bones - it also robbed him of his dream to compete in the New York Marathon.

The Property Only managing director and Caloundra Chamber of Commerce president is still nursing broken bones from the accident in Kawana a week ago.

But they don't hurt nearly as much as the disappointment of not being able to chase his running dream.

Mr Shadforth had planned to be alongside his brother Ray, their friend John Easthan and 48,000 other runners when the famous event gets underway next Sunday.

The trio had been training for a year in preparation and put in the hard yards.

Mr Shadforth and John Easthan completed the Cairns Ironman while Mr Easthan and John Shadforth also finished the Sunshine Coast 70.3 Ironman.

But when the simple bike ride went horribly wrong, Mr Shadforth was left nursing a list of painful injuries including a collapsed lung, a broken shoulder blade and six broken ribs. …
