RACING: Leading trainer Gai Waterhouse yesterday asked for more time to seek legal advice into the Melbourne Cup day treatment given to her stayer Tres Blue.

Waterhouse, who won her first Cup with favourite Fiorente, has been charged by Racing Victoria stewards under Rule AR 178E(1) which says: "No persons without the permission of the stewards may administer or cause to be administered any medication to a horse on race day prior to such horse running in a race."

Stewards allege Tres Blue was treated with the antibiotic cream Flamazine by a stablehand on Tuesday morning after the galloper had problems with a greasy heel.

After being alerted to the matter by a security guard, stewards opened an inquiry into the treatment before the Cup field jumped and determined Tres Blue would be allowed to run because the cream continued no prohibited substances. The former French stayer finished second last.

The Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board inquiry was adjourned until next Friday at 10. …
