Rain Denies Norths Shot at Racking Up Outright Victory

CRICKET: Rain intervened twice at the weekend to deny Norths an outright win over Brothers in Mackay Cricket's two-day Poole Cup competition.

Saturday's play was brought to a close by a late downpour, and more bad weather on Sunday saved Brothers from a big outright loss when play was dismissed with the team at 5-22 in their second dig.

But a first innings win has Norths back in the hunt for the finals.

"Another half an hour and it could all have been over," Norths captain Brant Attard said.

"The rain helped them twice, but that's what you've got to expect in North Queensland."

English all-rounder Brad Payne (5-50) and Troy Newton (4-19) were on fire to dismiss Brothers cheaply for 126 in their first innings, in which Connor Edmonds top-scored with 56. …
