Building figures in the city of Grafton reflect an optimistic future for the district with rapid strides being maintained in both private and government contracts. The chief health and building inspector of Grafton. Mr. R. Jordan, announced some interesting statistics yesterday.

Four members of the Grafton Voluntary Aid Detachment took part in the annual parade for V.A.D.'s at Victoria Barracks, Sydney. They were Mesdames J. Harper and W. Keaneally and Misses Joyce Fahey and Beverley Cook.

The Mayor of Grafton Ald. W. E. Crisp, has been informed that Jacaranda seeds which he forwarded as a prize for a television show "Video Village" will be planted in a suitable place in the new South Australian town of Elizabeth.

The Chairman of the Grafton Base Hospital Board of Directors, Mr. M. V. McNamara, said he was optimistic that the new maternity unit would be commenced within the current financial year. …
