COLUMBIA, S.C. | Any chance Florida had against South Carolina fell into the hands of a redshirt freshman starting quarterback and the legs of a freshman running back.

No Gators freshman quarterback has won in his first start besides Chris Leak in 2004. While freshman Kelvin Taylor has become the featured back, he was set to run with a depleted offensive line and against a stout Gamecocks front that featured Jadeveon Clowney.

With a third-and-14 at the South Carolina 20, Skyler Mornhinweg motioned out to the receiver position, thus leaving Taylor for a direct snap. Taylor bounced off right tackle, scampering 20 yards for Florida's first opening-drive touchdown since a 30-10 win against Arkansas on Oct. 5.

Taylor scored from 29 yards out on Florida's next drive. The play was identical to before. Quarterback goes in motion. Running back takes the handoff. This time, Taylor burst up the middle.

Mornhinweg only threw one pass on the opening 11-play, 67-yard drive that lasted 7:18. …
