GYMPIE teacher Alota Lima has told local parents to "be concerned" that Federal education funding will no longer give Wide Bay students the support they need.

He warning follows the scrapping of the previous Labor Government's Gonski Report funding plans.

"Parents and the wider community in Wide Bay should be concerned that by reneging on the promise that they were on a a[approximately]Unity Ticket' with Labor on Gonski, the Federal LNP has once again ignored the aging infrastructure, over-crowded classrooms and growing levels of disadvantage that our local schools, both public and private, deal with every day," she said.

She said losing the Gonski needs-based model of funding could cost students in the region dearly as schools already struggle to provide them what they need.

Ms Lima also aired concerns over the adequacy of yesterday's $1.2 billion Federal Government funding pledge to Queensland, Northern Territory and West Australian schools, saying there was yet to be a guarantee on how that money would be spent. …
