TOM Wade insists he is delighted by Blyth Spartans' progress so far this season, despite recent mixed results, writes STEVE BROWN.

The Croft Park club are sixth in Evo-Stik Premier after a run of three wins and three defeats in their last six league games. They play host to ninth-placed Marine this afternoon with Ash Davis and Arran Wearmouth suspended and Sonny Andrews returned prematurely to Spennymoor Town following a successful loan spell.

Wade said: "The lads have been a bit up and down recently, but that's to be expected with so many young lads. You don't get that consistency you'd like straight away, you have to work at it, which they are doing, and I'm confident it'll come in time.

"From day one, we always knew we'd have good spells and bad. Luckily, for the most part it's been good and while results have been mixed just lately, the lads are getting more experienced at this level. Now we're heading into a tough period because over Christmas the games come thick and fast and the pitches will get heavier and heavier. …
