Need Tools to Do a Job, Try Glenfords for Quality

TWO great ingredients - summertime and time off from work - and it all makes for the season of repair and renovation.

For many tradesmen and local Do It Yourself (DIY) people, Glenfords Tool Centre Ipswich is the place to get all the necessary tools to do the job.

"People do start and get into renovation work that they plan through winter, but the warmer weather is great to get these jobs done," co-owner Tony Child said.

Glenfords Tool Centres have a great reputation and the chain, now under the United Tools group, is part of a 68-store organisation. This means big buying power and that is passed onto the customers.

Glenfords Tool Centre started in 1997 and is Australia's first and largest chain of specialist retail tool stores. The store is under the co-ownership and leadership of Tony Child and Claude Chester. The business operated as an independent organisation for a number of years.

"We joined the United Tools Group simply to give us buying power," Mr Child said. Glenfords source high quality tools and cater to industry and the trades. Stores are open to the public, however, the range of tools is aimed at tradespeople.

The DIY client base is growing and non-tradespeople may not be familiar with the fact that Glenfords Tool Centre has an extensive range of tools. From hammers, screwdrivers and handsaws, to spanners, electric drills and tools, even wheelbarrows, this is all under the one roof.

Like many industries, some larger national retailers attempt to dominate, and online trading is taking its toll, but Mr Child knows that he is competitive and urges people to buy from their local business.

"Local people need to buy locally. People do not realise the impact that online buying is having on all retailers and there is a very incorrect message out there that says retailers are profiteering," he said. …
