Young Wollongbar Player Joins Tour after Late Call-Up

TIMING and injury is something Wollongbar rugby union player Matt Gibbon knows all about.

Gibbon, 18, has received a late call-up to join the Australian Schoolboys side on their tour of Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

His inclusion was made possible after an injury to one of the Australian front-rowers.

Ironically, Gibbon missed an important game against Fiji Schools earlier this year when he was playing for Australia A.

He was concussed just days before in a game against New Zealand Schools and was ruled out of the Fiji clash because of the short turnaround.

The two games doubled as selection trials for the combined Australia and Australia A touring side that has been overseas since mid-November

Gibbon is now in Ireland, with three games remaining on tour.

"He got called up because there was an injury to one of the front-rowers," his older brother Alex Gibbon said.
