ZACH Shanks is getting used to breaking records.

The Rockhampton rugby union star and powerlifting champion is revelling in success after setting multiple new national powerlifting marks.

The Vector Health athlete managed to lift 602.5kg at the recent UQ Powerlifting Challenge and said he was blown away by his results.

"I was playing rugby and got introduced to Vector Health and after a couple of years of training in the gym I was asked if I wanted to give powerlifting a go and I thought sure why not?" Shanks said.

"I did 16 weeks of training leading up to the competition and I am stunned with my results.

"It was great just to go down and compete but to break an Australia record was awesome."

Competing in the sub-junior 120kg raw powerlifting class, Shanks completed a 230kg squat to set a new national powerlifting record for the sub-junior division within the International Powerlifting Federation and also broke the Commonwealth and Oceania record of 225kg. …
