Coach Prefers Instincts to Robotic Manoeuvres

AN INSTINCTIVE fullback during his playing days, newly appointed Central Queensland Brahmans under-19 coach Dale Thompson wants his players to be the same.

Thompson took the reins of the Brahmans under-19 team for the first time last night as the team began pre-season training and their preparations for the 2014 Queensland Country Championships.

But instead of putting them through a gruelling conditioning session, Thompson sat down with his players and set out some goals for the 2014 season.

One of them was for his players not to become "robots" and to use their instincts in situations on the field, rather than stick to the structures in place.

"There are so many talented kids here and I just want them not to get into that robotic structure," said Thompson, who played one match at fullback for the Illawarra Steelers in the New South Wales Rugby League competition in 1984 before moving to Central Queensland. …
