ABOUT 18 months ago, Jason Faulkner had not fired a gun in competition, since then he has given Australian shooting a shake-up.

The 42-year-old's rise to the top of the rankings has not been without hard work and determination.

Now part of the Australian team and sitting second on rankings for Commonwealth Games selection, the Tweed resident and Murwillumbah Gun Club member says he remembers shooting as a young man but never thought he would be on the verge of a Commonwealth and Olympic dream.

"I did some shooting as a junior and I think the last time I was at a range was 1992," Mr Faulkner said with a grin.

"It was a bit of fun back then and this year is the first time I have competed."

In March he won gold in the 50m .22 calibre pistol event and bronze in the air pistol event at the Australia Cup and then went on to win the air pistol event again later in the year at the Australia Cup final. …
