Girl Strangled in Bangkok's 'Bulger Case'

IN a chilling echo of the James Bulger murder, a CCTV picture was released in Thailand showing a six-year-old girl being led away by the hand by a stranger before she was sexually assaulted and strangled.

A 32-year-old man is being held for the rape and murder of Atitaya Petchdon in the capital Bangkok 10 days ago. Her father Sayan Petchdon had taken her to a Thai folk music concert and shortly after 10pm put her in his lorry outside the venue so she could sleep. When he returned at 11pm she was gone. It is believed the suspect, known as Nui, had spotted her in the carpark and offered to buy her sweets.

Her father wept uncontrollably when he was shown the girl's floral trousers.

Police reported him as saying: "I'm sorry my girl. I shouldn't have left you in the truck. The mean man hurt you."

The body was found in a deserted area near the city's Sukhumvit Soi district yesterday. CCTV footage had caught her being led across Bearing railway station. …
