Ambulance Staff Attacked on Duty

TWO ambulance staff have been attacked while attending to patients on Teesside since April - including one incident in which a patient tried to grab a worker's breasts.

During the incident, on July 10 at about 5pm, a patient became verbally abusive and attempted to grope the Middlesbrough ambulance worker. The patient subsequently appeared in court and was fined.

In another incident on the morning of April 16, a Redcar paramedic was hit by an intoxicated patient.

The patient responsible appeared in court and was sentenced to six weeks' jail, suspended for 12 months, ordered to attend an alcohol rehabilitation course and pay PS80 court costs.

Figures released by North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) show that, as well as the two incidents since April, six Tees ambulance workers were attacked in the year 2012 to 2013.

Across the whole North-east, 48 NEAS ambulance workers have been assaulted since April, compared to 57 in 2012 to 2013. …
