Fans Push for Third Series of Hebburn

IT was no laughing matter when the second series of TV sitcom Hebburn came to an end.

And as the last credits rolled on BBC2 on Tuesday, disappointed viewers started an appeal to get a third series of the hit programme on screen.

Eager fans took to social network sites to urge writer Jason Cook and the rest of the cast to start working on another series and the request went viral as an army of fans wanted more.

The second six-episode series came to a triumphant end with the birth of cult character Denise's baby - and while fans have a Christmas special to look forward to on Sunday which will likely see the arrival of Chris Ramsey's character Jack and wife Sarah's little one, there are no confirmed plans for a third series as yet.

But after seeing the response of viewers, writer and comic Cook took to Twitter to urge fans to show their support for a third series by filling in an "appreciation" form on the BBC's website.

His request was backed by actor Neil Grainger, who plays pub singer Gervaise, who tweeted that the BBC website kept crashing following so many appreciation requests, and Chris Ramsey, who also asked fans to fill in a form.

Jason Cook, 40, of Hebburn, said: "We already have ideas for series three.

"We are ready and waiting to go if the BBC says yes to another one.

"It would be beyond our dreams if we were given the go-ahead.

"Hebburn is a programme about normal people and we've kept it as Geordie as possible.

"We are asking the north to get behind us and fill in an appreciation form on the BBC website.

"It has been such a success and we are very proud of it."

Run Geordie Run Mark Allison, who is racing 2,600 miles across Australia, took time out to join in the frenzy on Twitter and wrote: "Thank you #Hebburn cast for this. …
