Couple Celebrate 60 Years Together

WHEN Margaret Horne was a young girl working at the North Ipswich Woollen Mills, a girl working next to her at the spinning machines mentioned to her she had a cousin who was in the RAAF at Amberley and was looking for a quiet country style girl he could take out.

"I was quite taken by surprise and didn't know what to say at first," Mrs Horne said.

"Maudie told me he was a nice mannered lad with a quiet nature.

"I thought about it for a short while and then I said to Maudie, a[approximately]Well, if he will be prepared to come to my home to meet my mother and me, I would consider going to the cinema with him'."

Archie Horne then turned up at her door the Saturday afternoon after Mrs Horne had spoken with her work colleague.

Mrs Horne said he was a very likeable young man and the two hit it off straight away.

"We had the same values and very definite ideas about marriage," she said.

"We stepped out together for 12 months before marrying on December 19, 1953. …
