MIDDLESBROUGH'S thriving independent shopping quarter has a new addition - in the shape of the Baker Street Kitchen.

The cafe has opened its doors just a stone's throw from the Middlesbrough street that gives it its name. Baker Street has also made a name for itself as the town's independent retail quarter.

Marie Neeson and partner Mark Stirgess have transformed the corner site at 159 Albert Road, just around the corner from Baker Street, into a welcoming, tasty food haven in the heart of town. It's taken around a year to make their vision a reality, with the last four months spent transforming the site into the stylish cafe.

Marie, who was s 11in the whole Baker Street area, I was looking for a new challenge and this seemed like the right place to open a cafe.

"Mark and I walked around the area and spotted the site - which had previously been a cafe. We finally got the keys in August. We've spent the time since then creating a lovely space with lots of comfy leather sofas and old furniture - a really releaxed environment. …
