IF YOU live in a flood-prone part of Warwick there is a good chance you received a shiny new booklet in the mail last week.

The booklets, produced by the Southern Downs Regional Council, contain everything from maps and historical flood data to how to check the river heights on the internet and, of course, how to prepare for a flood.

Southern Downs Acting Mayor Ross Bartley said the guide was developed after the devastation caused by the January 2013 floods.

"The guide is a comprehensive booklet with historical information, tips on how to prepare for flood events, descriptions of flood warnings, flood severity classifications and what to do before, during and after a flood," he said.

"Most importantly the guide contains a series of flood evacuation maps which show the Warwick flood zone in a moderate and major flood. …
