Knowles Back in Kookas Contention for World League

ROCKY hockey star Mark Knowles is set to make his comeback to the international arena after he was named in an 18-man Kookaburras squad for next month's inaugural Hero Hockey World League Finals tournament in Delhi, India.

Fellow Rockhampton-raised hockey star and five-time World Player of the Year Jamie Dwyer, and a number of other top-line players will not be playing in the tournament.

Knowles' inclusion in Kookaburra's coach Ric Charlesworth's squad for the World League Finals is a massive boost for the 2012 London Olympic bronze medallists ahead of a busy and high profile year which features the World Cup, Commonwealth Games and Champions Trophy competitions.

Experienced defender Knowles has recovered from an ankle injury sustained at September's Australian Hockey League.

The injury forced him to miss November's Oceania Cup victory in New Zealand, although he filled a leadership role with the team in Taranaki. …
