GRAFTON teenager Sam Hall is one of the beneficiaries of the Minnie Water Wooli Surf Life Saving Club's youth policy.

At just 19 years of age, Sam has been appointed captain of one of the club's five patrol groups.

"It's a real honour and I was pretty stoked," Sam said.

He said the club has put three of its teen members in charge of patrols this summer.

"I think they want to give young people a chance to improve themselves and their leadership skills," he said.

It's been a rapid rise through the ranks for Sam, who joined the surf lifesaving ranks in 2007.

"I went along because a few of my mates did it and I just loved it," he said.

"The mateship of surf lifesaving is one of the things that attracted me to it."

Sam said the club partnered its young captains with senior members and former patrol captains. …
